Crime Statistics for 2001

INTRODUCTION

A Note about the Statistics

The statistics contained herein were taken from records from the offices of the Rice County Attorney and the Rice County District Court Clerk.  While much attention was given to detail, the possibility of mistakes still exists.

Each case was counted individually per case, not according to each count filed.  In other words, if one case contained eight counts, the case was counted only once.  The type of case was determined by the most serious charge.  For example, if one defendant was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Driving under the Influence and Battery, the case would be classified as a drug felony case, even though there were alcohol and person misdemeanor crimes also charged.

The determination as to whether to classify a case as alcohol or drug related was based upon the charge filed.  In many cases (for instance domestic violence) alcohol or drugs played a role in the commission of the crime.  However, those cases would not be classified as drug or alcohol related unless the most serious charge was a drug or alcohol offense.

4.  Care and Treatment cases (individuals who, due to a mental defect or alcohol/drug dependency, constitute a danger to themselves or others).

5.  Traffic offenses within Rice County or not otherwise filed by a municipality
