  Function The Register of Deeds has custody of and safely keeps and preserves all records  
    pertaining to land kept in the office of the Register of Deeds.  
    The Register of Deeds shall also record or cause to be recorded all deeds, mortgages,  
    maps, instruments and writings authorized by law to be recorded in the office of the  
    Register of Deeds and shall perform all other duties as required by law.  
       
  Open Records All records in the office of the Register of Deeds are open records except for the  
    Kansas Real Estate Sales Validation Questionnaire. The questionnaire is open to those  
    protesting their taxes and to Kansas Certified General Real Property Appraisers.

  NOTE: RESOLUTION PASSED AUGUST 28, 2006 by Rice County Commissioners  
"Any sums paid for goods and services from the County in excess of the amount due, but less
than Ten Dollars ($10.00) in excess of the amount due shall NOT be refunded by the County,
but shall be placed in the General Fund."

"Any sums received by the County departments for goods and services in excess  of

Ten Dollars ($10.00) over the amount due shall be refunded to the payor.

However, the County shall establish a fee of $4.50 for the costs associated with said refund."

 
 
If the name or names of any signer or notary public are not plainly typed or printed under the signatures, the register of deeds shall charge and collect a fee of $1.00 in addition to all other fees provided in this schedule.  KSA 28-115
If sufficient space is not provided for the necessary recording information and certification on a document, such information shall be placed on additional sheet and such sheet shall be counted as a page.
The document shall be of sufficient legibility to produce a clear and legible reproduction.  If a document is judged not to be of sufficient legibility, such document shall be accompanied by an exact copy thereof which shall be of sufficient legibility to produce a clear and legible reproduction and which shall be recorded contemporaneously with the document and shall be counted as additional pages.  The register of Deeds may reject any document which is not of sufficient legibility.
